Am I the only one here who looooves shopping for kitchen goodies? The only one who’s happy place isn’t buried in clothing racks or in a dressing room, but rather it’s roaming the aisles of the closest kitchen/home/cooking store?
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pair of shoes, there’s just something about shopping for my next kitchen gadget that takes me to cloud 9.
Unfortunately, more often than not, I’m window shopping. It’s all because of that nasty B word… budget. The thing keeps getting in the way and stops me in my tracks as I attempt to load up my cart with a must-have silicone baking liner or a mini quiche pan.
Never fear though, I’m the queen of bargain deals (thanks, Grandma!) and sticking to my budget (unless I have a coupon, and am in a kitchen store, but that’s a whole different post). And so, this is where I share with you my must-haves for the kitchen, especially if you’re on a budget. There are a few splurges on here, however, because we all have to dream too, right?
8 Measuring Spoons – Picture it: you’re baking away, mixing, flour is flying, and you have so many ingredients to measure. With these measuring spoons, I never run out of options and the unique sizes make it so easy – 2 Tablespoons? No problem, only one scoop to get the job done with this set!
OXO Good Grips Batter Bowl – I have had this mixing bowl for more years than I can count, and it still looks brand new! For longer than I’d like to admit, it was my only reliable mixing bowl. All I need now a few more of them.
Goson Cooling Racks – These cooling racks have been served so many purposes for me since I got them; they’re not just for cooling cookies my friends! They’re small, which is great for several purposes. The two side-by-side racks fit on a large baking sheet, and yes, they’re oven safe! Which has been perfect for making things like homemade fish sticks or chicken strips. Obviously they also double as cooling racks, too! 😉
OXO Good Grips Hand-Held Mandoline Slicer – LIFE SAVER for those recipes like Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes. It’s easy to store, it doesn’t cost a fortune, and it doesn’t require keeping track of a million accessories you’ll never use. Even better, it allows you to slice with three levels of thickness, which allows for super awesome flexibility in ONE tool!
Rolling Garlic Peeler – In case you haven’t noticed, I love garlic. Love is probably even an understatement. A garlic peeler makes life 1000x easier when you’ve got multiple garlic cloves to work with, like when making Skillet Chicken.
OXO Good Grips Angled Measuring Cups – Don’t give me another measuring cup. Ever. No more bending over to counter level to check how much you’ve poured.
Cast-Iron Skillet – all you need to know is TRIPLE CHOCOLATE SKILLET COOKIE. But really, having a cast-iron skillet is a must for so many recipes. This one is pre-seasoned, too, and is super easy to keep seasoned and rust-free!
OXO Good Grips Medium Cookie Scoop – cookies, muffins, cupcakes, you name it, this scoop (or one in every size!) is going to make life easier and keep those cupcakes evenly sized. YES, PLEASE!
Dutch Oven – having a dutch oven has changed my life. Soups, sauces, homemade pretzel bites… you name it, a dutch oven gets the job done. Now, we were generously gifted a Le Creuset French (Dutch) Oven, and if you can splurge, I’d highly recommend splurging on this. However, I have heard good things about the Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven, but haven’t personally used it myself. Whether you decide to splurge a little or a lot, a dutch oven is definitely a kitchen essential!
KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer – You knew it was coming, didn’t you? What don’t I use my KitchenAid mixer for? It was the best gift I could’ve ever received, so get out there and put it on your birthday/Christmas/Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/Saturday wish list, or heck, you have my full permission to head out and treat ‘yo self!
Since traveling to Savannah I can’t stop imagining that we’ve moved into a house with more character than I can dream of and a kitchen that exceeds any design I could even fathom, yet includes something a little like this:
- Large kitchen island with access to the most important parts of the kitchen and plenty of counter space
- Wine fridge. Or wine pantry.
- Gas range with more than enough burners to cook even the most extravagant dinners
- WINDOWS, WINDOWS, WINDOWS! Can’t get enough natural light. Ever.
- Double oven. Again – extravagant dinners in my house made for entertaining
- Fridge with enough space to hold every fresh fruit and vegetable my heart can imagine – and the drawers to store baking sheets. Love.
What’s in your dream kitchen? I’d love to get some more fabulous ideas from you! 🙂
