HOW TO CLEAN AND CUT LEEKS (including recipe ideas!)

Leeks are a wonderful and versatile allium vegetable with a sweet, delicate, mild onion flavor. They are a savory addition to many recipes - here's how to clean and cut them!

1

First, cut the stringy root end of a leek off.

2

Cut the dark green top off - it's generally too tough to cook with. Reserve it for vegetable stock.

3

Cut the leek in half lengthwise.

4

You can run the leek under water like this, or proceed to the next method...

5

Slice the leek halves in thin slices, depending on how you'll use them.

6

Transfer the slices to a bowl of cold water.

7

"Scrub" the leeks in the water to remove any stuck dirt or sand between the layers.

8

Strain, rinse, and enjoy!
